Super Duplex Thermowell, also referred to as austenitic-ferritic stainless steels, are a family of grades having around equal proportions of austenite and ferrite.
These steels have a duplex microstructure which contributes to their high strength and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Duplex steels offer high resistance to uniform and local corrosion because of their high content of nitrogen, chromium and molybdenum. Duplex stainless steels have good weldability.
AdvantagesThe austenite and ferrite micro-structure of duplex stainless steel has a number of benefits over austenitic stainless steel. Much improved since their introduction in the 1930’s, the low nickel content of duplex stainless steels makes them a more cost effective option.
The use of nitrogen as a replacement for expensive nickel gives several advantages, including enhanced tensile properties and greater resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and they are twice the strength of austenitic stainless steels. Their lighter weight also makes duplex stainless steels cheaper to transport and assemble.

PropertiesHastelloy C276 Thermowell is a wrought corrosion-resistant alloy. A prime advantage of this alloy is that it generally does not require solution heat treatment after welding. It resists the formation of grain boundary precipitates that would degrade corrosion resistance.
Hastelloy C276 Thermowell is well known for Good machinability, although the alloy work hardens as is true of the nickel base alloys in general.Can be cold worked by all conventional methods.Weldable by all common methods except that excessive heat input should be avoided. They are ideal for applications where the removal of the sensor could prove complicated such as on a vessel, pipe or tank. They are 12.7mm O.D. and are available with a ½ inch BSP taper process entry thread and ¼ inch BSP parallel sensor entry thread. A wide choice of immersion depths (under the thread) is available to suit various lengths of temperature sensor. Use a ¼ in BSP stainless steel fitting to attach the sensor to the thermowell.
